Obituary for Barbara Jane Sowell (Renfro)
Barbara Jane Renfro-Sowell, 69, of Cross Plains, Texas passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Hendrick Hospice in Abilene, Texas after a valiant battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 26, at 2:00 PM at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Sue Lucas officiating and Kevin Morten assisting. The family will have a time of visitation Monday, February 25 from 6:00-7:00 pm at Higginbotham Funeral Home in Cross Plains, Texas.
Barbara was born October 29, 1949 in Rising Star, Texas to the Late Rufus and Jeri (Anderson) Renfro.
Barbara graduated from Cross Plains High School in 1968, and then from Angelo State University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She taught and coached at both Cross Plains and May High Schools.
After she finished raising her family, she started her lawn business, Odd Jobs Ect. Which she ran successfully until her medical issues began last fall.
Barbara is survived by her son, Matthew Sowell and wife, Jackie of Cross Plains; daughters, Amanda Terece Sowell of Cross Plains; Malyssa Ann Sowell of Cross Plains; brother, Rodney Renfro and wife, Beth of May; 4 nieces, Carie Wheeler of Cross Plains; Sonya Bradstreet of Carrier, Mississippi; Sarah Thompson of Abilene; Jamee Atkinson of Cross Plains; her life-long best friend, Connie Swift of Cross Plains.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to the Cross Plains Community Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 183, Cross Plains, Texas 76443 or Hendrick Hospice Care 1651 Pine Street, Abilene, Texas 79601.
